The L10n of Blackberry

I'm a polyglot: I grew up in a bilingual household, went to highschool which taught two languages and subsequently did three university degrees in two languages. A linguist should have access to more than one language; in some cases, it's even a requirement for further study, like a doctorate.

Given this and my nearly overwhelming interest in world events and cultures, I took time to learn the basic grammars and writing systems of several other languages: Greek (Ελληνικά), Arabic (العربية), Russian (русский) and, latterly, Hebrew (עברית).

After a bit of work, I'm glad to see that I was able to bring my Blackberry Bold 9700 up to the standard of localization I have come to expect from my iPod Touch, which came with all of these languages pre-installed and enabled. I nearly went with an iPhone for this very reason.

I can now read, write and translate on-the-go in a variety of languages: it's a polyglot's dream.

Interesting post :) Are you a user of a BlackBerry with localized user interface in the languages you mentioned?

Hi Alex,

Indeed. Though my knowledge of many of those languages is still very basic, the ability to read and write emails and interact with web sites natively is a huge asset. I'm able to reinforce my knowledge whenever I have a few spare moments.
